LESTER BROWN GIVES BERKELEY INSTITUTE OF THE ENVIRONMENT DISTINGUISHED LECTURE Lester Brown, founder of the Worldwatch Institute and the Earth Policy Institute, president of the latter, author and researcher, gave the 1st annual Distinguished Lecture at Berkeley's Institute of the Environment. His research has helped avert catastrophic degradation of the food supply in India, and looks into the problem of ecological degradation diminishing our ability to supply basic nourishment and other services to a growing global population. The presentation is packed with information, news and policy developments, strategies for improving the environmental situation across the globe, data on the crisis facing the world as the most populous emerging economies comprehensively industrialize (China and India, each with over 1 billion in population). The litany of statistics and figures is more dramatic than wonky, always eye-opening, as with Lester's writing. Sentido anticipates increasing convergence between moving and broadcast media and the static, readable internet. It is with this in mind that we have begun planning the launch of a "Sentido TV" digital platform for online posting and reader download of moving news footage and reporting.

Sentido's aim to extend its service into broadcast format multimedia stems from the belief that information is valuable in itself and that providing information over multiple channels liberates the audience that consumes such information. Sentido will not reduce its textual offerings, but will provide enhanced complementary audio-visual coverage of key stories.
