by Joseph Robertson on Sep.17, 2009,
under Books, News & Essay, Taller Pinzón Nueve
The Creative Approach: The ‘Other’ Evolving
by Joseph Robertson on May.27, 2009,
under Books, Cave Painting, English, News & Essay
The creative approach to language, the expressive urge, the impact of a whim to let the unseen meaning come to be seen, come into the light: to write creatively, one must know how to think without the limiting slant of convention, and this means to recognize, to fashion, to come upon new forms and counterweights, new allowances, and to effect bold innovations in the way words and sounds and currents of meaning are matched and provided for…
To think about achieving new cosmologies, to think outside the geometry of the known (or presumed) universe, we must first come to the understanding that rule-based thinking is designed to leave us with thoughts that re-affirm the underlying preconceptions, the rules…
Discussion forum on new publishing models to speed the spread of best ideas
by The Editors on May.24, 2009,
under English, News & Essay, The Hot Spring (innovation)
Creative writing is part of the work of any writer. Finding the best way to put two words, then three, then four and ten, together, is the basic metabolic process of creating any text. And it requires a vision and an application of that vision.
Publishing models determine which texts are made available to a wide audience, and by what means. New media, like this social network, are providing new opportunities, but the crossover between print and digital media will provide bold new opportunities for making the best new ideas available to the people who can do the most with them.
Share your ideas on what you would like to see to make news media, research materials, conceptual innovations and basic statistical evidence, and/or writing that expresses new ways of thinking, available for your consumption.
Across the Void
by Riga on May.05, 2009,

If I am moved to give my mind and my energies to revealing the hidden details behind a story about a storyteller, beset by the political winds and deprived of her basic human intimacies, a reporter, a poet, a seer of deep patterns, it must be because we all have a fundamental human dignity that we wish would reach across the void to others, and if we are honest, we see when it is threatened.
I want to know what the shape and texture of the human voice, as a whole, really is, to know where beauties have been silenced, where serious thought is being diverted into pools of circular self-proclamation made by dictators and miscreants. I want to know how limited is my humanity by the limiting of someone else’s.

Poetry is a Vehicle of Meaning, Necessary Now as Ever
by Joseph Robertson on Apr.22, 2009,
under Books, Cave Painting, English, News & Essay
Helium.com :: Poetry is the frontier where language in use comes in contact with future meaning, and in the process, when best executed, brings a wealth of transcendent truths into the present. Poetry is relevant to all uses of language, though there may be trends that suggest popular culture is looking to new forms of poetic activity to replace specific old models: many musical artists now play the role of mythic historian or wandering troubadour, but poetry is not confined to these purposes.
The art of the rhyming couplet, the frenetic ebb and flow of iambic pentameter, sometimes seem in today’s language environment more a distraction than a vehicle for delivering meaning across time. Poetry now resides in subtler places in more intricate and interrelated forms. It seeps into political discourse, into rap, into the dialogue between two characters on a movie screen, often for brief moments, then pushed aside by a mass of prose and fact and circumstance. But this is not new and it is not hazardous to poetry’s survival as a concentrated art-form fashioning new molds and opening new horizons.

Project Quipu: an Integrated Economic Atlas for the 21st Century
by Joseph Robertson on Oct.08, 2007,
under English, News & Essay, The Hot Spring (innovation)
Examining the manner in which financial news is reported in the popular media, The Hot Spring’s collaborative innovation initiative proposes to create a system whereby live-update, rss-technology, and financial and editorial expertise, come together to produce a reliable up-to-the-minute resource for evaluating broad economic trends and engagements, without limiting analysis to single-parameter references like GDP or individual stock indices.
It is often thought that in order to organize ideas or to put some kind of order to any analysis, one needs uniformity, a limited number of generic categories and a single system of uncomplicated parameters by which to categorize each subject under review. But the truth is, this uniformity is not and will not be the rule of any part of lived reality.
To emerge from the fog of flawed, incomplete and opportunistically limited economic and financial analysis, means we need to come to grips with the fact that all resources, all functions or ‘services’, be they natural or the product of human ingenuity, figure somehow in economic values at all levels. There may be no clear way to quantify their contribution or mercantilize them, but they are there, and nothing can be fully understood in economic terms without seeing this. [Complete Text]
