About Endlessness

by Joseph Robertson on Jun.03, 2009,

I feel like I’m in free-fall
a regime of tiny plummetings
impossible to overthrow
floors slipped away
or dispersed into a vague oblivion
so many imperceptible plunges
so close together in time
it feels like unrelenting free-fall
irreversible retreat
of most prized & precious
aspects of selfhood

worldness
acquiescence — overcome —

I feel like all the substance
of decades of dreaming
is suddenly flying off
up or down or outward

shockingly unaccountable

toward the sun
to refill the oceans
to crystallize in mid-air
& fall to earth
to be recaptured
at the rate of 1 inch
per million million years

all while there is no earth
to firm my place
nor keep me as I am
all while the idea of memory
is no more idea than
that of dragon’s feet
or pegasus soaring
or nature providing
flawless indulgences
as we had always hoped…
